Day 6 Morioka to Misawa

Today was another repositioning day.  In the morning we went to the Morioka Handiworks square to see a local artist colony.  They feature indigo dying, cast iron, pottery, toy making, and wicker working.  There was a gentleman in one of the cast iron shops that had a fantastic presentation about what he was making and used his tablet to translate his  “sales pitch”.  He offered us coffee that he had placed an ingot that removes impurities and any rust .  It was the purist freshest tasting coffee we had ever had.  Then he gave us hot water with the same ingot…again, it was very fresh tasting.  We were sold!  Then he showed us his other hobbies; photography and audio.  His sound system was to die for.  He played the Eagles’ Hotel California and we thought we were at the concert.  This truly was a memorable experience.

Back in the car for our 2 hour drive to Misawa.

Upon arrival, Kevin and I did our best to try to navigate around.  It’s not surprising how much has changed in 21 years, but there is a lot that is still the same.  Our old apartment building has been converted into lodging and we are in the exact same apartment, just one floor up.  It’s a bit wild being in the same layout…the spoons are in the wrong drawer though :-)

We hit the commissary to get groceries so we can cook breakfast and went into a few of the shops at the BX (base exchange).  After, we went to my favorite Chinese restaurant and I got my favorite dish: chicken and cashew (it’s nothing like what I get in the states) and it totally lived up to my memories.
