Day 4 Sendai

Published on 30 June 2025 at 17:19

Sendai is one of the larger cities north of Tokyo and our half way point to Misawa.

In the morning we went to explore the Senda Daikannon, (Senda Tendou Baykue Daikannon) which is an extremely large statue of Buddha: taller than the Statue of Liberty.  The base has a warrior depicting each of the 12 zodiacs so we had to get our pictures next to each our our animals:

Liam: Rat

Dad: Rooster

Lily: Dragon

Kevin: Monkey

Jess and Mom: Boar/Pig

We took an elevator up 12 stories and descended down a spiral staircase to see 108 Buddha statues: in Buddhism, it is said that humans have 108 afflictions or earthly desires, including feelings like pain and suffering.

After the Buddha, we went to the Sendai mall to explore Japanese shopping.  Liam and Lily cleaned house with some new school clothes and Kevin and I each found a few things.  We had a good Chinese lunch and then caught the arcades before crashing for night.
